Baby waking due to rolling?

I remember when this happened with my oldest and/or I have blocked it out— so I totally get it!  I did not lose sleep with all 3 of my kids, just my oldest.   And I lost this sleep for a reason…

When babies start moving, this is a very exciting milestone for them and as we know, these milestones can cause sleep disruptions.

One of the main reasons your baby is waking is because your baby has a natural instinct to practice this skill constantly.  You may find that your baby is waking in the middle of the night crying because he or she is stuck in a position that is not comfortable and that he is unable to physically get out of. In this situation, the best thing to do is to reposition your baby to a comfortable position.

In order to help your baby ultimately master this skill and therefore stop the night waking, the best thing to do is to practice, practice, practice.  I suggest lots of tummy time and practice during the day.  (I purchased a gymnastics mat that I used with each of my children for this practice so I didn’t have to worry about a hard floor).  The better a baby gets at being able to roll both from tummy to back and from back to tummy, the less baby will wake up at night to practice!  (It’s important that the baby be able to roll both directions) You will find that once your baby has mastered the art of rolling he will no longer wake because of it. There is no need to practice anymore and the baby will no longer get stuck in an uncomfortable position.  Win win!!!
